About Diamonds

Auckland Ring Company puts precision, time and passion into selecting and presenting each and every diamond, after all, a diamond is a lifetime investment. Our quality standards known as the 4 C’s – Carat, Colour, Clarity, Cut and Certification – ensure each diamond’s characteristics are of the finest pedigree. Choose from: Round Brilliant, Princess, Emerald, Asscher, Marquise, Oval, Radiant, Pear, Heart, Cushion and fancy coloured loose diamonds.

CARAT
Carat is the weight used to measure the mass of a diamond. A one carat diamond weighs .02 grams. Jewellers, however, refer to diamonds using carats and points (percentage of a carat): 100 points equals one carat, 50 points a half-carat, 75 points is three quarters.

COLOUR
Colour (except in fancy coloured diamonds) refers to the diamonds lack of colour. White diamonds are graded on a universal colour scale that starts with "D" and progresses to “Z”. D is the highest colour in value and returns the most light and generates the most sparkle. Diamonds can also be yellow, blue, green and pink.

CLARITY
Clarity refers to a diamond’s lack of inclusions. Because diamonds are formed by nature, most do contain some inclusions, but many are microscopic and can be glimpsed only under powerful magnification. It is the lack of these inclusions that influences the price. From flawless through to inclusions - all clarity grades are available to suit all requirements.

CUT
Cut refers to the way the diamond has been cut and polished from its original natural rough state – releasing the diamonds fiery sparkle. Not to be confused with the shape of a diamond. The cut examines the proportions, symmetry and how well the diamond returns light. Nature is responsible for marks and colour, but the diamond cutter is the one who unlocks the true beauty of a diamond. Popular shapes for diamonds include princess, heart, pear, round brilliant, oval, marquise and emerald.

CERTIFICATION
Independent reports and laboratory certificates are available with each diamond over .50ct purchased at Auckland Ring Company. This certificate warrants the authenticity of the diamond and the jewellery in which it is set.
